A new Carlisle City Council Customer Contact Centre is up and running from today (Monday 29 February).
Portakabins, based in the Civic Centre car park, provide a temporary site for the council service which has recently been based on the first floor of the Civic Centre and prior to that from the Tourist Information Centre’s Assembly Rooms.
Following Storm Desmond in early December, work is underway to restore the Civic Centre building and the Customer Contact Centre, which was based on the ground floor, was moved to other temporary locations.
The Customer Contact Centre will continue to open between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm on Fridays.
Cllr Jessica Riddle, Portfolio holder for Communities, Health & Wellbeing, said:
“Alongside thousands of Carlisle residents and businesses, our assets were badly affected by the floods. The Civic Centre was under several feet of water, higher than in the previous floods in 2005.
“Our staff quickly put in place temporary access to our customer services and a Customer Contact Centre was set up at the Tourist Information Centre and when we could gain access, back to the Civic Centre. Despite the difficulties of losing our main office and several other sites, our staff continue to deliver excellent services to residents.”
The entrance to the customer contact centre is at the rear of the Civic Centre building, via the Civic Centre car park. The portakabins provide disabled access.
