It is strongly recommended that electricians become members of one of the Competent Persons Self Certification Schemes. This will usually involve paying an annual registration fee to the chosen organisation but, once this has been done, an unlimited number of installations can be carried out, and it is only then necessary to provide the organisation with details of the work undertaken. If the Council route is chosen, each individual job must be the subject of a Building Regulation application and payment of the appropriate Charge.
