Zoning
The British Planning system does not have a specific policy of
zoning broad areas of land for specific uses. The process of good
planning involves the careful choice of sites for specific uses
such as employment or housing.
These ‘allocations’ appear in our Local Plans - part of the
Development Plan for Carlisle District.
In the past there have been Simplified Planning Zones though
these are now rarely used. The government has proposed as part of
the ‘Delivering Through Planning’ agenda, the introduction of
Business Planning Zones to assist in a number of situations in
providing a flexible planning regime.
