Botchergate Conservation Area Appraisal
The Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990
imposes a duty on Local Authorities to designate as conservation
areas any "areas of special architectural or historic interest, the
character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or
enhance". The Act emphasises that the appraisal and designation of
conservation areas are not to be considered ends in themselves. It
places a duty on local authorities to draw up and publish proposals
for the preservation and enhancement of conservation areas in their
districts, and to consult the local community about these
proposals.
The Botchergate conservation area was
designated in January 1994.
A Draft Botchergate Conservation Area Appraisal and Management
Plan was prepared and approved by Council in November 2011.
The consultation closed on the 5
March 2012. Comments have been received, changes
will be made and the report will be presented to Council in the
Spring.
