Tree Preservation Orders
The Planning Services Business Unit is responsible for the
protection of trees through Tree Preservation Orders under the Town
and Country Planning Acts. A Tree Preservation Order makes it an
offence to cut down, top, lop uproot, wilfully damage or wilfully
destroy a tree without the planning authority's permission.
You can check if a tree has a Tree Preservation Order by using
our map
facility. Or alternatively, please e-mail your question to
edadmin@carlisle.gov.uk or
telephone 01228 817535
A tree that is protected by a Tree Preservation Order
requires the owner, or anyone else wishing to do works to the tree,
to seek the consent of the Local Planning Authority. This is done
by an application on the form below. This requires a location plan
or sketch of the tree's location and description of the intended
work. You can either download the form and send a hard copy of the
application by post, or e-mail your completed form to edadmin@carlisle.gov.uk. There
is currently no charge for these applications.
