Sandbag Policy

The policy of Carlisle City Council with regard to the deployment of sandbags is to prevent or contain floodwaters from rivers or groundwater. The sole responsibility for protection of private property in the event of a flood lies with individual owners and not the City Council or any other agency.

During operational hours:

08.00 to 15.30 Monday to Friday (except Bank Holidays)

Following the issue of a formal flood warning from the Environment Agency the Council will provide sandbags in the following locations:

 NC3 Area B Willowholme - Entrance to Caldew Maltings
  Willowholme - Beside 'Autovols' in industrial estate
 NC3 Area C On footway at entrance to Shaddongate car park 
  Car parking area behind Etterby Terrace
 NC3 Area D Traffic island by Charlotte Terrace, off Warwick Road, opposite ESSO petrol station
 NC5 Denton Holme Traffic island / garden area, Milbourne Street, north of former Jehovah's witness hall
  Junction of Collingwood Street and Denton Street
  Junction of Metcalfe Street and Garfield Street
  Junction of East Norfolk Street and Dalston Street 

In addition, sandbags can be made available for collection from the Bousteads Grassing Depot after residents have contacted Customer Services, Civic Centre, Carlisle, CA3 8QG by telephoning 01228 817200 to notify the Council they wish to collect them.

 

Outside operational hours:

Sandbags will be distributed as above following a formal flood warning from the Environment Agency, however, sandbags will not be available for collection from Bousteads Grassing unless a formal flood warning has been issued.
