City Council Car Parks

Carlisle City Council is responsible for the maintenance of, and enforcement of parking regulations in the Pay & Display Car Parks in the city.

Short Stay Car Parks

Town Dyke Orchard 

  • 253 parking spaces
  • 4 Pay & Display machines

Civic Centre 

  • 90 parking spaces
  • 14 reserved bays for 'Permit Holders Only' Monday to Friday
  • 2 Pay & Display machines

Bitts Park 

  • 58 parking spaces
  • 1 Pay & Display machine 

Sands (short stay area only)

  • 60 parking spaces
  • 1 Pay & Display machine                    

Marks & Spencer 

  • 21 parking spaces
  • 1 Pay & Display machine
  • 2 hour maximum stay - This includes Blue Badge Holders         

Long Stay Car Parks

Upper Viaduct 

  • 211 parking spaces
  • 3 Pay & Display machines
  • Coach Parking Allowed - 6.30pm to 8.30am

Vehicles may park on this car park for up to a maximum of 7 days. Payment can be made for this facility by purchasing one Pay & Display ticket for each of the days that parking is required, this should be done when the vehicle is initially parked.

Example: Vehicle requires 3 days parking - on arrival at Car Park driver must purchase 3 all day Pay & Display tickets from the machine and clearly display all 3 of them in the vehicle. The Parking Attendants are aware to allow 3 full days parking from the date on the tickets purchased.                       

Lower Viaduct

Sands

Zone C - This area of the car park is reserved for Sand Centre users. Only vehicles clearly displaying a red 'Customer Parking Permit' correctly completed are allowed to park in this area.

Swifts Bank

Charging hours:

  • Monday to Friday             Permit Holders Only
  • Saturday to Sunday          Pay & Display   8.30am to 6.00pm

Golfers may park free of charge in designated 'Golfers Bays' when clearly displaying a valid Permit. There are 7 dedicated golfers bays.

Cecil Street

Talkin Tarn

  • First 2 hours parking free - a clock disc must be clearly displayed showing the 'time of arrival' to qualify for the free parking. Thereafter a valid Pay & Display ticket or permit must be clearly displayed.

  • No return within 1 hour

Blue Badge Holders

Blue Badge Holders may park free of charge and without time limit (not exceeding 24 hours) in a Pay & Display Car Park owned by the City Council. The Blue Badge must be clearly displayed.
