Abnormal loads
Large and heavy loads are known as ‘abnormal loads’. When
hauliers wish to move loads which are classed as 'abnormal' they
must notify and gain consent from Cumbria County Council. When a
haulier wants to move an abnormal load of over 40 tonnes gross
weight, they must notify the County Council of the routes
that they intend to use. Their consent must be obtained
before the load is moved.
For vehicles over 80 tonnes gross weight, five
working days notice is required.
For vehicles over 40 but less than 80 tonnes
gross weight, two working days notice is required.
