Lane gating

Lane gating, also known as alley gating is a method of controlling access to back lanes. Gates are designed to restrict access and only allow entry to the residents who live there, businesses and other people with genuine legitimate access. This in turn leads to a cleaner safer environment, improved community spirit and reduces waste management costs for the local authorities.

For Alley Gates to be considered in any area of the city they are assessed and prioritised from statistics gathered from the Alley Gates Partnership Group, the local authority, police, fire service and environmental health teams. The lanes are scored on the number of categories such as fly tipping, the number of properties effected by the lane, cost effectiveness and number of fires.

How to request Alley Gates

If residents wish to apply to have their back lanes considered for gating in the future they should contact the Anti-Social Behaviour Support Assistant on 01228 618512.

Residents are clearly very happy with the newly installed gated. One said;

"I feel much safer now the gates are up, i look forward protected from potential burglaries."

It is planned that more alley gates will be installed as and when funding is identified.
