Provided by Arts Council England, Developing your Creative Practice is a fund designed to support independent creative practitioners to ensure excellence is thriving in England’s arts and culture sector.
The fund is intended to create more pathways for individuals, from a range of creative practices and backgrounds. It will allow creative practitioners the time and space to undertake ambitious research and development, helping to make a step-change in their practice.
Following a hiatus, the Arts Council has reopened the scheme with changes designed to better support applicants during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, with the aim of supporting as many people as possible to reshape and redefine their work and continue to make a positive impact on creativity and culture.
There is an increased budget of £18 million to distribute across the next 12 months. Individuals can apply for between £2,000 and £10,000, to take a dedicated period of time to focus on their own creative development, and propel them to the next stage in their practice. Previously, applicants could only apply twice within a 12-month period. But between October 2020 and October 2021 there are no restrictions on reapplying.
Applications are welcomed from practitioners who have identified a clear development opportunity. This could be a period of research, time to create new work, travel (including international working), training, developing future ideas, networking or mentoring.
Individual artists and/or creative practitioners in England may apply. Applicants must apply as an individual, or as a small group of practitioners who usually collaborate in their work.
The current round is open until 5 November 2020.
