Applications Invited for Let Teachers SHINE Programme

Education, Employment and Training

24 October 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Funding for practising teachers with innovative ideas to help disadvantaged children in the North of England succeed in school.

The Let Teachers SHINE competition aims to support innovative teaching that gets great results in English, maths and science with a focus on new ideas and fresh approaches.

There is a total of £150,000 to give away, with grants of up to £25,000 over two years on offer. It is expected that around ten grants will be made.

The competition is open to all qualified, practising teachers working in a school or educational establishment in the North of England or a qualified teacher currently practising outside of the North who is committed to expanding their project in the North of England.

Priority will be given to projects that:

  • Could be rapidly expanded in future years particularly in the North, for example online.
  • Show that there is a plan in place for expanding the project.
  • Have some 'in kind' match funding in place, eg applicant's own time or time of colleagues.

Applications from all areas and all types of schools will be considered as long as the children targeted have some indicator of economic disadvantage.

The deadline to apply is 23.59 on 16 January 2023.

How To Apply

Applications are open until 16 January 2023 with notifications expected by 20 February 2023.

The application form, guidelines and faqs can be accessed via the SHINE website.

The application process is as follows:

  • Stage 1: Submit an online application, providing an outline of the idea, how it would be implemented and how much it will cost.
  • Stage 2: Shortlisted applicants will be notified by 28 February 2022 and invited to explain their idea via video conferencing a small panel of up to five people, comprising a SHINE team member and a SHINE trustee and/or friend of SHINE.
