Cash Prizes Offered to Artists Creating Work Inspired by Wales

This scheme invites artists to submit 2D or 3D artworks in any medium to win monetary prizes.

Wales Contemporary/Cymru Gyfoes is an international open competition developed by the Waterfront Gallery in association with the Welsh Government.

Artists are invited to submit their 2D or 3D artwork in any medium (painting, drawing, sculpture etc) that is 'Inspired by Wales' ie by its ancient history, its art history, its heritage, its landscape (rural, urban or political) and its contemporary culture.

A total of £14,000 will be awarded in prizes:

  • Two dimensional – First prize: £3,000, second prize: £1,500, third prize: £750, fourth prize: £500, fifth prize: £250.
  • Three dimensional – First prize: £3,000, second prize: £1,500, third prize: £750, fourth prize: £500, fifth prize: £250.
  • Public choice – first prize: £2,000.

The competition is open to all artists aged 18 and over based in the UK or internationally. Artists may enter up to three works. The artwork must be for sale; sale prices should be inclusive of 30% commission. The artwork must have been made in the last three years.

The deadline for entries is 19 July 2022.
