Launch of IUK’s Driving the Electric Revolution - Building Talent for the Future 2 Competition

Digital & Technology

16 March 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

UK registered organisations can access support for innovative skills, talent, and training projects for Power Electronics, Motors and Drives (PEMD).

Electric and hybrid vehicles, domestic appliances and other applications are creating a considerable need for next-generation power electronics, electric machines and drives (PEMD). For the UK to be able to design, develop and manufacture these products, it requires skilled people across all levels.

The Innovate UK (IUK) Driving the Electric Revolution Challenge is now investing in projects building talent for the future. The aim is to fund several ideas that quickly fill immediate gaps in skills, talent and training for the PEMD industry.

The aim of this full stage competition is to create and deliver course content and materials that will support skills, talent and training across PEMD manufacturing and supply chain; building awareness of PEMD and filling key gaps in the UK's workforce talent and training capabilities.

The programme has an overall budget of £4.5 million. Applicants can claim up to 100% of the total eligible project costs, up to a limit of £50,000. Projects must start by 1 October 2022, and last between 6 and 12 months.

This competition is open to single applicants and collaborations. To lead a project or work alone applicants must be a UK registered business of any size, research organisation, research and technology organisation (RTO), academic institution, charity, not-for-profit, or public sector organisation.

Applicants must demonstrate clear industrial support for their application, covering a cross section of technologies and sectors. They must work in, or have strong industrial ties with the PEMD sector.

The deadline for applications is 27 April 2022 (11:00 BST).

  • Open: 15 March 2022
