Funding available to local authorities to contribute towards the delivery of a behavioural insights project aimed at managing service demand and achieving efficiencies.
Behavioural insights have been used across public services to generate low cost interventions to improve policy outcomes. The approach is based on the idea that interventions aimed at encouraging people to make better choices for themselves and society will be more successful if they are based on insights from behavioural science.
Last year the programme piloted a consortium approach – encouraging neighbouring local authorities to:
- Work together to deliver a joint project
- Scale up the impact of the project through low-cost interventions.
This year, the Local Government Association (LGA) will work with up to three groups of councils – each of which will run a behavioural insights trial. The LGA will commission a supplier to work with each consortium from July 2022 to March 2023 to:
- Support the design and delivery of the trial
- Produce a report including a literature review and outcomes
- Share the work with LGA audiences and networks.
The programme is seeking applications from a group of local authorities who will work together to run a behavioural insights trial to address a behavioural challenge in their local area. Each consortium should consist of at least six councils.
For the 2021/22 programme grants of £20,000 were available. Funding amounts have not yet been released for the current round of the programme. Contact the LGA for further details.
