UK Small Firms Encouraged to Enter Heroes of Net Zero Competition

15 September 2021/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Forming part of the UK Government’s Together for our Planet campaign, the Heroes of Net Zero Competition has been created to celebrate those small businesses taking the most innovative action to go green and become a net zero organisation by 2050.

Businesses are encouraged to share the actions they have been taking for a chance to attend the COP26 climate conference, and win a prize package to help develop and grow their operations.

The competition is open to all UK small businesses with 50 employees or fewer. Businesses must make a public commitment to become a Net Zero business by 2050. Winners will be judged in two categories: Micro (1-9 employees); and Small (10-50 employees).

Entries will be judged by a panel of experts. Those deemed to be the best entries will be invited to attend COP26 in Glasgow on 2 November 2021, where the winners will be announced and receive a prize package worth £4,500.

Prizes for the winner of each category:

  • 21 hours’ consultancy with an Energy Manager and free access for one year to ‘Business Energy Intelligence’ energy management platform, worth £3,500, from SSE.
  • Six hours’ bespoke mentoring with a NatWest Enterprise Manager from its Climate Accelerator programme, helping winning businesses gain climate friendly skills in accessing new markets to attracting talent.
  • Up to £1,000 in vouchers to access a brand new digital advertising support package from BT to grow the business online.

Travel expenses (second class, return train ticket for two people per business only) to Glasgow will be covered for the top five shortlisted in each category.

How To Apply

The deadline for applications is 6 October 2021 (23.59 BST).

Applications are made online at the programme website.
