Free non-means tested grants to enable hospital discharge
***Currently only available to households in the area that was previously Carlisle district***
Homelife Carlisle provide free non-means tested hospital discharge grants to anyone who is in hospital, or has recently been discharged, and requires emergency repairs or measures to get them home or to prevent a hospital or care admission. Essentials works include:
- Installation of Key-Safes
- One-off clean and clearance
- Heating repairs
- Boiler & gas fire servicing
- Gas safety check – including cookers
- Replacing gas fires with electric for safety reasons
- Gas capping
- Electrical repairs
To qualify a member of your household must be in hospital or a respite setting or at risk of admission to one of these. At our discretion you may still qualify if you have been discharged from hospital within the last 7 days. The application must be verified by a health, social care, or community sector professional.

Dementia Friendly Grants
We have non-means tested grants up to the value of £5,000 to help people with Dementia or memory problems make changes to the home that would support them to live in their own home safely for longer. An example of measures may be:
- Installation of Key-Safes
- One-off clean and clear
- Heating repairs
- Boiler & gas fire servicing
- Gas safety check- including cookers
- Replacing gas fires for electric for safety reasons
- Gas capping
- Electrical repairs
- Lighting
- Safety flooring
- Carbon monoxide/heat/cold alarms
- Lockable medicine boxes
- Other items may be available please get in touch for more information.Some items may need a referral from an Occupational Therapist or similar professional.
To qualify we require confirmation of your diagnosis from a relevant health professional (e.g. health or the community care sector) Our grants are available regardless of tenure unless the work required is the landlord’s responsibility (e.g. gas servicing and heating repairs)
