Carlisle City Council are pleased to advertise an exciting opportunity which has arisen from a recent organisational restructure. We are looking for skilled or semi-skilled vehicle mechanics to join our enthusiastic workshop team and we will invest in your personal development to support you in your role and beyond.
The Fleet and Workshop Team provides mechanical support at our Carlisle based depot. The fleet comprises of a large range of specialist commercial vehicles, vans, cars and horticultural machinery and part of your role will be to ensure the Council’s fleet of vehicles, plant and machinery are kept in a roadworthy condition.

About the role
37 hours Monday – Friday.
As a career grade mechanic, you will carry out:
- your duties in line with DVSA and manufacturer guidelines;
- MOT tests and taxi test inspections;
- all types of servicing, safety inspections, diagnostic work and electrical repairs on fleet vehicles, horticultural machinery and specialist equipment.
You will be a self- motivated team player with good communications skills. You will have a flexible, can-do attitude, fully recognising the vital role the workshop plays in supporting the delivery of priority services to the people of Carlisle.
Please note that some weekend work to cover the Bank Holidays will be essential and an HGV licence would be an advantage although not essential as training may be available. Additionally, recent experience of carrying out MOT tests would be welcomed although not essential as training will be available.
