Stanwix Parish Community Governance Review

The second stage of consultation on the creation of a parish council for Stanwix was held between Wednesday 10 August and Friday 26 August 2022.

Residents were invited to take part in a public consultation as part of a process called a Community Governance Review.

A summary of the responses to the consultation and the options for Carlisle City Council to consider will be discussed at a Council meeting on Tuesday 13 September. A link to the report is available here.

Background

This Community Governance Review was initiated following a valid petition submitted by the requisite number of electors, pursuant to the provisions of Section 80 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007.

The petition called upon this Council to constitute a new Parish Council to be styled as “Stanwix Village Parish Council”. Carlisle City Council has responsibility for undertaking community governance reviews and the ability to decide whether to action the recommendations made in those reviews, taking account of the views of local people.

The Working Group agreed the Terms of Reference and Guidance for respondents to the questionnaire and to the initial public consultation which ran between 1 February 2022 and 18 March 2022.

Each household within the proposed area of the new parish was sent a document signposting them to the consultation material published within Carlisle City Council’s website and provided with a questionnaire to allow them to respond via mail if necessary. A date for a face-to-face meeting at Stanwix Community Centre was arranged for the public to drop in if needed.
