Recruitment of Casual Neighbourhood Operatives
We are looking for people to join our new casual pool to support the delivery of high priority local services for the people of Carlisle. As a member of our casual pool you will be available at short notice to provide a range of duties across some of our key services, including working as a loader on our refuse and recycling collections or helping with our street cleansing services in our streets, neighbourhoods and town centres.
You will be a strong team player, committed to delivering quality services to customers and have a sound approach to managing health and safety. You will also be able to cope with the physical demands of the role, working for example outdoors in all weathers, walking up to 12 miles per day as well as able to safely lift bags, boxes, bins etc. You will also have a positive and flexible attitude to work and display this in your behaviour and commitment to the role and to your team as we work to provide excellent services for the people of Carlisle.
Full training, uniform and PPE will be provided.
Casual staff will be expected to be available to cover for short-term placements due to the absence of Council staff. This could be for a single day or could be for longer periods of several weeks.
Typical duties may include:
- Safe loading of wheeled bins and bags for household waste and garden waste
- Safe loading of recycling bags and boxes
- Litter picking and street cleaning / sweeping activities, including removing fly-tipping / dog fouling / needles / syringes etc
- Emptying street litter bins
- Supporting winter maintenance activities eg clearing snow, ice, treating pavements etc
- Driving roles may be available for those with the appropriate driving licence.
