Castle By Election

The Castle Ward Carlisle City Council By Election was held on Thursday, 15 September. Polling stations were open between 7am and 10pm. The By-Election count was held at the Civic Centre soon after the polls closed at 10pm.

Results:

Candidate Name                                                             

Melissa Andrews (The Conservative Party Candidate): 228 votes cast

Deborah Jane Brown (The Green Party): 34 votes cast

Anne Glendinning (The Labour Party Candidate): 398 votes cast (Labour hold - 170 majority)

Alison Elizabeth Hobson (Liberal Democrat): 88 votes cast

Robert Reid-Sinclair (UK Independence Party): 107 votes cast

Spoilt votes: 1

Total number of votes cast: 856

The turnout was: 21.9%

 

Following the By-Election:

The City Council has 52 Councillors, comprising 27 Labour Councillors, 20 Conservative Councillors, four Independent Councillors and one Liberal Democrat Councillor. Each Councillor serves one of 22 wards.
