Castle By Election

The Castle Ward Carlisle City Council By Election was held on Thursday 24 November. Polling stations were open between 7am and 10pm. The By-Election count was held at the Civic Centre soon after the polls closed at 10pm.

Facts and figures:

Total number of eligible Castle ward electors: 3,923

Total number of polling stations: Five

Results:

Neil Boothman (The Green Party): 36 votes cast

John Edward North (The Conservative Party): 194 votes cast

Stephen Ronald Sidgwick (The Labour Party Candidate): 350 votes cast

Michael Jon Story (UK Independence Party): 79 votes cast

David John Wood (Liberal Democrat): 51 votes cast

Spoilt votes: 1

Total number of votes cast: 711

The turnout was 18.1%

 

Following the By-Election, the composition of the Council is as follows: 27 Labour Councillors, 20 Conservative Councillors, 4 Independents and 1 Liberal Democrat Councillor.
