Following the additional government advice regarding social distancing and mass gatherings, we’ve taken steps to delay the spread of Coronavirus and will divert our resources to critical services.
We will continue to provide services, ensuring that we’re doing all we can to support our residents and local communities. We are working with partners on the response to this emergency, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable.

Thanks to those caring residents that have been in touch asking how they can help with the Coronavirus outbreak. There are opportunities through the NHS Volunteer Responders and Support Cumbria. In the meantime, please follow the government’s advice regarding social distancing and staying at home.
You should only leave the house for very limited purposes:
- shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
- one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.
- any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
- travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.
So please hold off with litter picks and other such activities. We can support you once the lockdown has ended, but in the meantime, please protect yourself and others.
We’re responding as quickly as we can to reports of fly-tipping and littering. This make take longer than usual as our staff are helping to support critical services such refuse and recycling.
An update on other services is as follows:
Customer Contact Centre update
We have changed the way our customers can contact us and are restricting access to the Civic Centre Customer Contact Centre. This is to minimise risk to those using the contact centre - both customers and our staff.
We’re reassuring our local communities that we’re still here to support them. They are advised to phone us on 01228 817200 or email [email protected] and help will be available.
Everything possible is being done to ensure we can continue to provide vital council services to everyone. We are constantly reviewing our processes and will always endeavour to provide the best service possible in line with government advice.
This service has closed with immediate effect (Tuesday 24 March) until further notice.
