Households in Carlisle are being encouraged to apply for free gas safety grants.
Homelife also have grants up to £500 from Gas Safety to provide preventative services that directly address the risks of death, injuries and illness caused by dangerous gas work and appliances.
Grants of up to a maximum value of £500 can be awarded per beneficiary and only one award per household. The grants are restricted to:
- Home owners who are 60 years of age or over and who receive means tested benefit
- Home owners who are 60 years of age or over and who receive state pension only (with no other income)
- Home owners who are 60 years of age or over and who are disabled (either registered disabled or can evidence disability, e.g. receiving DLA)
- Home owners who are 21 years or over who are disabled (either registered disabled or can evidence disability, e.g. receiving DLA).
The following types of essential minor work may be carried out using the Grant Scheme funding:
- Gas Safety Checks
- Gas Servicing
- Gas Boiler Repairs
- Gas Cookers
- Gas Pipework
- Water Heaters.
