Keep Carlisle Clean

New dog poo bag dispensers will soon be available in two areas within Carlisle.

Two dispensers will be installed - one in Denton Holme and another in Stanwix - later this month. The trial has been set up by Carlisle City Council as part of their Keep Carlisle Clean campaign. The signage includes a strong message to dog owners and warns them that they could be fined if they do not ‘bag and bin’ their dog’s waste. Dog owners will be able to pick up free dog poo bags from the dispenser.

Cllr Chris Southward, Portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, said:

“We want to Keep Carlisle Clean. The new dog poo bag dispensers will be installed in a couple of trial areas and if they prove useful and reduce the amount of dog fouling, we will look to extend the initiative to other parts of the district. No community should have to put up with streets and green spaces polluted with dog fouling. Not only is it a health hazard, it is also an unsightly mess. We need residents and businesses to work alongside us to tackle litter, dog fouling and other anti-social behaviour.”

Carlisle City Council is urging local residents and businesses to back its campaign to Keep Carlisle Clean. The council wants to work alongside local people to tackle anti-social behaviour such as graffiti, litter, dog fouling, fly-tipping and fly-posting.

To report dog fouling, email Carlisle City Council at [email protected] or call 01228 817200.

The penalty for not clearing up dog fouling can be up to £1,000.
