Green-fingered Stanwix residents are being asked to ‘make a difference’ this Saturday (9 July) by joining forces with Friends of Rickerby Park volunteers.
As part of the build up to the Stanwix in Bloom judging on Thursday 14 July, residents are being asked to lend a hand by taking part in a Friends of Rickerby Park Make a Difference day, starting at 10am. Anyone willing to take part in a litter pick and general clear up of the area, is asked to meet in Eden Bridge Gardens.
Stanwix has entered the Urban Community category of Cumbria in Bloom after previously winning the category in 2012, 2013 and 2014. After taking a break in 2015, the Stanwix in Bloom committee, along with support from businesses, Stanwix School, the Friends of Rickerby Park and St Michael’s Church, is asking residents to join in too.
To coincide with the judging, households around the Church Street and Scotland Road area, are being asked to ensure their gardens are blooming marvellous.
Cllr Paul Nedved, Stanwix Urban ward councillor and Stanwix in Bloom committee member, said:
“We are asking for the support of Stanwix residents of every age group to help with Stanwix in Bloom. The Make a Difference day is one way to lend support. As previous winners of the Urban Community category, we are keen to pick up our high standards and we would be delighted if local residents joined in our campaign to make Stanwix bloom.”
In addition to local community support, funding has also been received from Cumbria County Council and Carlisle City Council. This has contributed towards hanging baskets and other floral displays.
