Storm Ali information
Refuse and recycling collections:
Although adverse weather conditions, including high winds, are affecting the county, we are continuing to collect kerbside refuse, garden waste and recycling but are advising residents to:
- Help reduce litter by making sure containers are closed and secure;
- Place recycling out on the morning of your collection by 7am rather than the night before or consider keeping hold of your recycling and either placing it out on your next scheduled collection or take it to a recycling bring site.
A list of sites and locations is available at: https://www.carlisle.gov.uk/residents/bins-and-recycling/recycling-sites
Due to the high winds and to minimise litter, our street cleaners will work alongside the recycling crews to help tidy up the streets.
Parks and open spaces:
Due to very strong winds, we are receiving a number of reports of fallen trees. For trees blocking roads please call the Highway Hotline on 0300 3032992 or online at www.cumbria.gov.uk/roads-transport/highways-pavements/cumbria-highways/highwayshotline.asp
For fallen trees in parks and green spaces (Bitts Park etc) please call our Customer Services team on 01228 817000.
Due to the high winds and the danger of debris falling, we are advising visitors to their parks and green spaces to avoid walking or parking near any trees.
We have been checking all reports of fallen branches and trees on their land but recommends that visitors stick to open spaces until the wind has died down. We have been concentrating on incidents where property or infrastructure has been affected as our priority. We’ll deal with other issues as soon as we can.
