Tribune Drive Play Area

Tribune Drive Play Area

Local residents are being asked to have their say on what replacement equipment they’d like to see installed in a Houghton play area.

The play area at Tribune Drive, Houghton was originally installed in the mid-1990s by the developer of the estate. Maintenance of the facility and surrounding open space has since been carried out by Carlisle City Council.

The play equipment is now approaching 25 years of age and reaching the end of its lifespan, two spring rockers and a rope scramble net have already been removed.

Carlisle City Council will fund the £35,000 improvement scheme that will include a complete replacement of the equipment and surfacing within the footprint of the original play area.

Consultation with the local community to determine the types of equipment they'd prefer to see included in the redevelopment started on Monday 1 June and residents will be asked to comment by Friday 19 June 2020. An online survey is available at

Cllr Elizabeth Mallinson, Portfolio holder for Communities, Health and Wellbeing, said:

“We’re delighted that the redevelopment is supported by Stanwix Rural Parish Council and Houghton C of E Primary School. The new play equipment will create a much-improved facility that will benefit Houghton residents. Please have your say on what equipment you’d like to see included.”

Following the feedback from the consultation, a specification reflecting the preferences will be drawn up and tenders requested from play equipment manufacturers.

The aim is to carry out works on site in late summer or autumn 2020.
