Plans are in place to install new outdoor exercise equipment in Yewdale, Carlisle.
Work is underway to provide a new, free to use, Carlisle City Council funded outdoor exercise facility for residents. It will be located on the edge of the park next to Yewdale Community Centre.
Locating the new facility on the grassed area next to the Community Centre premises will also help to encourage a feeling that the area is overlooked and being informally monitored for any inappropriate usage or behaviour.
The first stage of this project will be to consult with local residents and potential users of the new facility to determine their preferred style of exercise equipment. Three options are available: traditional gym equipment; cross training systems; and assault course items.
An online survey has been set up to allow residents to provide feedback and consultation material will be displayed on site and in the Community Centre, along with hard copies of a written response form.
The consultation period will carry on until Friday 28 June 2019 and the City Council will consider all feedback received. The project will then be progressed via specialist equipment manufacturers and installers with an anticipated completion date of autumn 2019.
Our Green Spaces team has worked closely with Yewdale Community Centre to ensure that this new facility is positively promoted to all members of the local community and it is hoped that, wherever possible, existing exercise and fitness activities taking place at the centre will utilise the new facility. We are now encouraging potential users and local residents to let us know what they think of the options.
An online survey is also available at www.carlisle.gov.uk/consultations
Please return any responses by Friday 28 June 2019.
