Carlisle City Council is exploring options for redevelopment of the 3.16 ha (7.81 acres) brownfield site to the west of the River Caldew.
We aim to develop the currently underused site for residential uses. This will improve Carlisle’s city centre living offer.
Introducing more city centre living in this site has the potential to drive footfall into the city centre, improving Carlisle’s offer to young people and increase the vitality and viability of the city centre and the Carlisle Station Gateway area.
The proposed improvements form part of stage three of the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal’s Carlisle Station Gateway and Citadels project.
Carlisle City Council has secured £850,000 through the government's Towns Fund to prepare the site for redevelopment. Work is underway to review the level of contamination and develop a remediation plan that can deliver a development site for a housing led scheme. The development of this site will fundamentally improve the vitality and viability of Carlisle’s city centre by delivering a modern urban living opportunity.
