The 2012 Best Bar None Scheme was launched this week and several
venues have already taken the plunge and have signed up, the first
Carlisle venues being Outrageous and the Crown Inn, Stanwix who
were last year’s joint winners.
Applications must be received by Monday, 6 February.
The Best Bar None awards focus on safety and customer care with
the ultimate aim of finding the best pub, club or bar in Carlisle
and Penrith.The initiative aims to reward licensees, who provide
good management, a safe and enjoyable environment for customers,
discourage binge-drinking and prevent alcohol-related crime.

The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Barry Earp, is inviting local
residents and businesses to join him at a special “Royal” event on
Saturday, 11 February.
Tickets are available at “An Evening with Henry VIII – Looking
over his Life, between Courses” at the Tithe Barn, starting at
7pm.
All proceeds from the evening will be donated to The Mayor’s
Charity Fund 2011/12, the main beneficiary of which is Hospice@Home
(Carlisle & North Lakeland), with three other Local Charities
[NSPCC Carlisle, Citizens’ Advice Bureau (Carlisle), and Community
Projects Carlisle] also benefiting.
