Music in Maytime
What can be better than spring in Cumbria? As the flowers blossom, the sun shines and the weather becomes warmer the gorgeous green fells are reflected in the shining waters of the county’s lakes, meres and tarns. The cold greyness of winter is over; the harsh summer heat is not yet upon us. A spirit of optimism and cheerfulness fills us all and you may well feel like lifting your voice to the skies in song. Or you may prefer Solway Singers to do so for you, while you sit back and relax and enjoy this programme of classic songs. The programme includes arrangements of folk songs such as Bobbie Shaftoe and Yarmouth Fair, traditional Scottish songs O Can Ye Sew Cushions and Afton Water, as well as original works by Gerald Finzi, Sir Edward Elgar, and Sir Charlies Villiers Stanford. The choir, led by their Musical Director Anthony Peacock, will also sing several pieces from Sir George Shearing’s lovely set of jazz-inspired Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare. Set to words from Shakespeare

10cc's Graham Gouldman
As a founder member of 10cc, and the genius behind such pop hits as 'Rubber Bullets', 'I’m Not in Love' and 'Dreadlock Holiday', is Graham Gouldman one of the greatest songwriters of all time? We think so, and The Songwriters Hall of Fame clearly agrees! In June 2014 he is to be inducted into their ranks at a special ceremony in New York, joining previous inductees such as Noel Coward, Irving Berlin, Burt Bacharach, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Leonard Cohen. It was in 1965 that the teenage Gouldman enjoyed his first taste of chart success, penning The Yardbirds’ classic single 'For Your Love' – a Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Not bad for a lad who still had a day job at a gents outfitters at the time! From then on he was one of the 1960s’ most prolific hitmakers penning 'Bus Stop' and 'Look Through Any Window' for The Hollies, 'No Milk Today' and 'Listen People' for Herman’s Hermits, 'Tallyman' for Jeff Beck and 'Pamela Pamela' for Wayne F

Jon Richardson
Jon Richardson is checking his tyre pressures, hoovering his floor mats and putting an emergency packed lunch in the boot of his car, ready to hit the road again with a brand new tour ‘Nidiot’. The perennial singleton and misanthrope is determined to become a more easy-going person for the sake of his friends and his future health. Come and find out whether or not a leopard can change its spots or if they are doomed to be angry forever not to have been given a more uniform and symmetrical fur pattern. The Doors Alive
The Doors Alive are a British tribute band widely regarded as the closest and most enthralling representation of the legendary 1960s rock gods The Doors in the world today. The band re-create the sound, look, presence and magic of a real 1960s Doors concert, perfectly and effortlessly transporting the audience back in time with classic hits such as 'Light My Fire', 'When The Music's Over', 'Riders On The Storm', 'The End' and many more. "If you thought Val Kilmer was good, be warned this guy is even better. Moving and singing like Morrison the rich baritone clung to the air like molasses - Simply The best Doors tribute band on the road at the moment" - Ron Clooney (Author of "Mr. Mojo Risin). "The Doors Alive is the best Doors "tribute" band that I've seen... Sometimes they sound more like The Doors then The Doors" - Doug Cameron (Assistant road manager to The Doors 1968/69). In short they don’t disappoint. Take a trip with one of the greatest bands that ever lived. Ages 14+ (ages
