Darren joined the City Council in 2010 as a Strategic Director. In 2012 he was promoted to the position of Deputy Chief Executive. As well as deputising for Jason, he is responsible for Economic Development, Local Environment, Contract and Community Services, and Partnerships.
Whilst working for Carlisle he has led on transforming the Council’s services to become ever more efficient and customer focused. He also leads on a broad variety of other commercial and service led projects including the introduction of free WiFi to the city centre and the planning and building of a new Arts Centre. Darren is committed to local government workforce development and is a qualified coach, mentor and supervisor. He has recently developed a Cumbria Coaching Academy to support local leaders and managers.
Darren has over 25 years of experience in local government working for Metropolitan and District Councils in Preston, Sheffield, Doncaster, Bedford, Wigan and Lancashire. He is married with three daughters and in his spare time, he enjoys trail running and following Preston North End.
