Carlisle City Council is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy in terms of how we collect, use, store and destroy your personal information. We are the data controller of the personal information we will collect from you and under the General Data Protection Regulation, this fair processing notice is designed to provide you with all the information you have a right to be provided with.
Why are we collecting your personal information? We are collecting your personal information for the purpose of dealing with any customer query. Personal information may be required to carry out council functions including any associated payments for the supply of services where appropriate identification may be required. The authority provides local government services along with administering central government policy which may require personal information in line with the relevant legislation for that service.
What allows us to collect your personal information? We are applying GDPR Article 6(1)(e) (Public Task) which supports the council to gather relevant personal data to appropriately respond or carry out a task arising from your query. Customer Services handle information on behalf of each department or service. As such, there may be instances where data is collected under an alternative lawful basis specific to the service your query relates to. In this instance, please refer to the Privacy Statement of that service to identify the legal basis or legislation under which your personal data is being collected.
What personal information will we collect? The personal information we collect may include name, contact details, personal financial information, personal identification and payment details dependent on the service or response required.
What will we do with your personal information? Your personal information will be processed internally by Council staff in accordance with the Council’s Data Protection and Confidentiality Statement and will not be shared outside the Authority, unless we are required to consult with third parties in relation to disclosing information to you.
How long will we keep your personal information? Your personal information and the information held in relation to your request will stored in line with the authorities’ retention schedule for the service requested.
