Current issue - Summer-Autumn 2018
Welcome to our latest edition of Carlisle Focus.
There is a lot planned this summer including the Weeping Willow by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper on show at Carlisle Castle until Sunday 8 July. This is part of the final year of 14-18 NOW’s UK-wide tour of the iconic poppies.
There are also lots of exciting events including the return of the International Market, the Carlisle Fringe and the Pageant Puppet Parade. Open-air theatre events are also planned at Talkin Tarn Country Park.
Updates on our leisure facilities and green spaces also feature alongside our summer walking programme. Information on how to join ‘Friends of’ groups and Give a Day to the City are also within this edition. Armed Forces events including a Freedom of the City celebration for RAF Spadeadam are planned in the city centre. This will include a flypast by a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on Saturday 2 June. The award of the Freedom of the City is to mark not only the close relationship between Royal Air Force Spadeadam and the City of Carlisle but also to celebrate the Royal Air Force’s centenary year.
