Swimming Pools

The following swimming facilities are managed by Greenwich Leisure Limited.

The Pools, Carlisle

The Pools Swimming and Health Centre is located on James Street, only 5 minutes from the centre of Carlisle and offers a huge variety of activities for all ages.

The Centre boasts 3 heated swimming pools, A 25m pool, 20m and 10m. Also on the complex is the fantastic Victorian Turkish Health Suite which dates back to 1874 and which still has many of its original features. There is also a gym, sunbed suite and fitness studio on site.

Morton Pool

Morton Pool and Fitness Centre is located in the grounds of the Richard Rose Morton Academy.

The centre has a 20m swimming pool with moveable floor, a new studio and state of the art gym.

Trinity Leisure Centre

The facilities on offer at Trinity include a superb 20m ‘L’ shaped Swimming Pool for casual and club swimming. The leisure centre also features a sports hall and a 27 station fitness suite with the latest resistance and cardio vascular equipment.

There is an extensive swimming programme from 4pm each evening including general swimming, lane swimming, adults only, aqua fit and family swimming.

Voted one of the UK's best value municipal courses by the BBC Golf Magazine, Stony Holme continues to provide a stern but fair test to the many golfers who play the course.

The 18-hole par 69 layout features water on no less than 8 holes. Two rivers and is a great mixture of tight tree lined fairways make for tricky shots over and around water. The course is superb value for money and apart from a great golfing experience is renowned for its fantastic catering and hospitality and its well stocked pro shop.

The course is superb value with 18 holes on a weekend costing just £18 with cheaper rates applying Monday to Friday. Booking a tee-off time is easy whether you're playing on your own, with friends or as part of a visiting group or society.

As well as a challenging 9 hole (par 27) course The Swifts has a 12 bay driving range, grass hitting area, practice bunker and chipping facility and practice putting green. It is the ideal facility for any golfer intent on improving their game.

The Sheepmount is home to a variety of sports organisations including 17 football clubs, 2 athletics clubs, other pitch sports and indoor rifle shooting and also plays host to a variety of major events and school activities.

The Stadium has an 8-lane track, adult grass football pitches, junior grass football pitches, mini grass football pitches, a sand filled astro pitch, gym and function room. It was redeveloped in 2006 through a £3.6 million project, funded by Sport England and the Football Foundation, which created a fantastic athletics and football resource for Cumbria.

Sky Ride Local events

We have an exciting new partnership with British Cycling to deliver free bike rides throughout Cumbria.

Ride Social campaign

Ride Social is Britain’s biggest social cycling community, helping you get together with like-minded cyclists and ride your way. The Ride Social website, powered by British Cycling, lets you organise your own bike rides using your favourite routes. Share your ride for local cyclists to join and before you know it you have your own cycling group.

Cycling Clubs and Venues in Carlisle

The Border City Wheelers has been promoting cycling in Carlisle since 1925. The friendly club is welcoming to new members of all ages and abilities. They have an active membership of over 200 involved in most types of cycling, including road racing, time trialling, grass track racing, sportives, reliability rides and social riding.

The Eden Valley Cumbria Group of the CTC organises rides every Wednesday and Sunday. These are largely on scenic routes and quiet lanes, varying in length and pace. Normal rides are 50 to 70 miles in the summer (plus an annual 100 miler), less in winter. Most rides have designated breaks at cafés, allowing cyclists to ride directly there, to shorten or lengthen their day.

The Watchtree Wheelers Cycle Centre opened in July 2009 and is based at Watchtree Nature Reserve, between Wigton and Carlisle. The centre provides adapted cycles for all abilities, as well as high quality instruction and guidance, including learning to ride, improving riding skills, and selecting the right bike for your needs.

Cycle Carlisle aim to make cycling in Carlisle, safe, convenient and popular. To encourage people to use cycling as part of their normal daily transport and turn Carlisle into a progressive cycle-friendly city.
