Opportunities for procurement

The City Council aims to produce various forms of assistance from direct seminars, networking opportunities and website advice all aimed at helping local businesses to take advantage of these opportunities.

Selling to Local Authorities and Public Sector bodies

The Chest is the North West's Local Authority Procurement Portal, it has separate web pages for each of the north west’s sub-regions and individual councils as well as other public sector bodies. Cumbria County Council and the six district councils in Cumbria are all on The Chest.

Nuclear Procurement Opportunities

Sellafield Ltd advertises its Procurement Opportunities through several processes that are all linked and are available on the Suppliers section of the Sellafield website

Proposed nuclear new build in West Cumbria

NuGen, a UK nuclear company, is a joint venture between Toshiba and GDF SUEZ.  NuGen’s Moorside project aims to develop a new generation nuclear power station of up on land in West Cumbria.

The Moorside project is currently in the development phase. This phase will cover site assessments to confirm site suitability in 2015, secure a nuclear site licence in 2018 with a final investment decision taken by the end of 2018. On this basis, the expectation is that any new power station would be commissioned around 2024.

North West Coast Connections Project

National Grid's North West Coast Connections Project (NWCC) is about connecting the electricity that will be generated by new energy projects being built in Cumbria and Lancashire to homes and businesses. The project will connect and export energy from the proposed Moorside Nuclear Power Station in West Cumbria. The exisiting pylon lines cannot carry the amount of electricity a power station the size of Moorside will generate. In 2015, National Grid will announce which route corridors are being taken forward to the next stage of consultation.
