Councillor John Mallinson

John was first elected on to Carlisle City Council in May 2000 for the St Aidan’s ward and since 2007 has represented Longtown & Rockcliffe. At the 2019 elections, he was elected as one of three councillors for Longtown & Borders.

He was appointed Leader of Carlisle City Council in May 2019, after serving as the Leader of the Opposition since May 2012. He has also previously been Deputy Leader of Carlisle City Council (May 2009 - May 2012) with the portfolio holder responsible for finance. He was also the Chairman of the Employment Panel between May 2009 and May 2011. He has been the Leader of the Conservative group since May 2012.

John is the Chairman of the Henry Lonsdale Trust, a charity that provides high quality, professional residential care. He is also Longtown Community Centre’s Treasurer.
