Advice on how to recycle your household and garden waste
ACCEPTED
Paper, newspaper, greeting cards, magazines and catalogues.Cereal boxes, egg boxes and other cardboard containers (please flatten any large containers and place behind/under your green bag). Food and drink cartons (Tetrapak).
NOT ACCEPTED
Glittery cards, wrapping paper, wallpaper, polystyrene or face masks.
Empty plastic bottles (please squash and replace tops), plastic household containers, such as shampoo bottles, yoghurt pots, margarine tubs and food trays.
No plastic film, plant pots, plastic bags, disposable gloves, bubble wrap or toys.
Clean and empty glass bottles and jars.Clean and empty drink cans, food tins, foil trays, aerosols and jar lids.
No pyrex, ceramics,broken glass, kitchen foil or nappies.
Replacement or additional bags, boxes and box covers can be ordered online. In high winds, please do not leave containers out overnight to avoid littering. Extra recycling can be taken to one of our local recycling sites.
Flowers, grass and hedge clippings, leaves, plants and weeds, twigs, small branches and real Christmas trees.
No food waste, pet waste, plastic bags, rubble, soil, turf or stones. Please do not overfill your bin.

Local reuse charities may be able to accept bulky household items if they are in a good, clean, reusable condition.
If the item is not reusable, you can take it free of charge to a Household Waste Recycling Centre. Visit www.cumbria.gov.uk for more details. Alternatively you can use our bulky waste collection service (chargeable service).
