Background
The Bikeability Trust distributes grant funding on behalf of the Department for Transport to fund Bikeability training for children in England.
The Widening Participation Fund has been established to identify children who do not currently access Bikeability and address the barriers that they face in accessing training. The fund will support innovative pilot projects that demonstrate how barriers can be overcome and participation increased within underrepresented groups. Particular focus will be given to lower uptake in areas of deprivation, and amongst specific ethnic backgrounds and female teenagers.
The fund is administered by the Trust with funding of over £1 million from the Department for Transport.
Objectives of Fund
The two key objectives of the fund are to:
- Pilot new forms of Bikeability training with a focus on reaching every child.
- Pilot initiatives that remove barriers to access to participating in Bikeability.
