International Rice Business Plan Competition for Young Entrepreneurs - 2022 Round Launched

Educational Funding

12 November 2021/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

An educational programme mirroring real-world experience through a multi-day event for student start-ups from across the world is now open to applications.

The Rice Business Plan Competition (RBPC) is an international graduate level start-up competition. It is designed to give collegiate entrepreneurs a real-world experience to pitch their start-ups to investors, receive mentoring, network with the entrepreneurial ecosystem, enhance their start-up strategy, and learn what it takes to launch a successful business.

There will be over US $1 million in prizes, and all 42 teams competing at Rice University are guaranteed to win cash prizes. Currently, the minimum cash prize is US $500, and the grand prize winner receives a US $350,000 investment (typically in the form of a convertible debt note).

Alumni from the RBPC have raised more than US $3.1 billion in funding and have generated more than 32 successful exits, valued at nearly a billion dollars.

Teams comprised of students from more than one school may take part. Student start-up teams from universities across the world can apply.

Start-ups should fall into one of five categories or sectors:

  • Energy/Cleantech/Sustainability
  • Life Sciences & Healthcare Solutions
  • Consumer Products & Services
  • Hard Tech
  • Digital Enterprise

The 2022 Rice University Business Plan Competition takes place 7-9 April 2022. It will operate in-person in Houston, Texas, USA.

The deadline for applications is Monday 31 January 2022 (23:59 CST).
