Open 4 Business Portal

Carlisle City Council is providing local businesses with free access to its local business support and grant portal provided by Open4Business. This is tailored for the Carlisle area and includes local, regional and national schemes.

Business can also search for funding relevant to their size and sector. To use the portal, you will first need to register with Open4Business.

Launch of TikTok #BeYourOwnBoss Entrepreneurship Competition

The TikTok #BeYourOwnBoss competition has been created to drive entrepreneurship, primarily among young people. The initiative is seeking ambitions potential business owners with the knowledge and work ethic to turn their idea into a successful enterprise.

Entrants will need to create a 30-60 second pitch video on TikTok, selling their ideas and explaining the steps they would take to realise them.

The winner will receive:

  • £5,000 in cash.
  • Two hours' of expert mentorship from successful entrepreneurs.
  • Marketing support from The Purposeful Project and TikTok.
  • A year of financial, business and marketing advice from Intuit Quickbooks.

The Purposeful Project will also arrange a PR campaign to promote the winner and feature them on all its social media channels.

Entries are open to all UK TikTok users over the age of 18. Entrants must follow @SimonSquibb on TikTok and feature the hashtag #BeYourOwnBoss

Speaking about the initiative, Business Minister Nadhim Zahawi, said:

'We want to make the UK the best place in the world to start and grow a company. That's why I'm backing the #BeYourOwnBoss competition, which seeks to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs to make their dreams a reality.'

The closing date for receipt of all entries is 30 June 2021 (23:59 BST).

Entry to the competition starts on 28 May 2021.

Ten finalists will be chosen by the judges to present their idea to the panel in more detail during a live-streamed TikTok finale. There will be one winner selected at the end of the campaign and will be announced on TikTok on 7 July 2021
