Background

Objectives of Fund
The 2019 Conservative Manifesto committed to a £3.8 billion Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) over a 10-year period to improve the energy performance of social rented homes, on the pathway to Net Zero 2050.
The SHDF will aim to upgrade a significant amount of the social housing stock currently below Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) C up to that standard, delivering warm, energy-efficient homes, reducing carbon emissions and fuel bills, tackling fuel poverty, and supporting green jobs.
Value Notes
For the current round, the Government has announced £160 million for financial year 2021 to 2022.
Levels of support for individual projects have now been specified.
Who Can Apply
Registered providers of social housing, including private and local authority providers, will be able to apply.
For the first wave of the SHDF, grants will be awarded via Section 31 which means housing associations will not be able to directly apply to the fund. Housing associations will be able to apply as part of a local authority led bid.

UK
How To Apply
Applications for the first wave of funding will open in autumn 2021.
Further information on the autumn bidding window will be published later this summer.
Funded projects will be those delivered up to March 2023.
