Sustaining Support for Armed Forces Communities Programme

Grants are available for existing charitable projects to provide short-term help to enable activities and services that are important to Armed Forces communities to be able to continue.

Objectives of Fund

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust is providing this short-term funding for projects, activities or services that are currently used by Armed Forces communities where there is a risk that these services are under threat because of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on charities that support Armed Forces communities.

Value Notes

The £6 million budget will be distributed according to the quality of applications received.

There are two levels of funding under both tracks:

  • Grants of up to £50,000
  • Grants of up to £100,000

The minimum grant is £20,000

Who Can Apply

To be eligible to apply, organisations must be one of the following:

  • A UK based registered charity that specifically supports Armed Forces communities that has been registered for at least three years at the time of application
  • A UK based registered charity with substantial recent experience of supporting Armed Forces communities that has been registered for at least three years at the time of application.

Organisations applying for a grant will need to show they provide support to people from Armed Forces communities, and that it would have a negative effect, particularly on veterans and Forces families, if their work could not continue.

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Connunity Interest Company (CIC)
  • Armed Forces units or bases
  • Local authorities
  • Schools or academy trusts
  • Individuals
  • Charities or CIC, which does not have substantial recent experience of supporting Armed Forces communities or is newly registered.
  • Other public sector organisations
  • Charities based overseas.

Eligible Expenditure

The funding will covera a wide range of projects as long as it is clear that the funding is needed and will enable projects or services that benefit Armed Forces communities.

There are two funding tracks available. Organisations can only pick one track and receive only one grant from this programme.

Project Funding Track

  • Grants of up to £50,000 or up to £100,000
  • For existing projects only that are well used by people from Armed Forces communities.
  • Will fund up to 2 Full Time Equivalent staff to deliver the project or activity for a year; plus other reasonable costs.

Core Cost Track is for Armed Forces Charities only:

  • Grants of up to £50,000 or up to £100,000
  • Will fund up to two Full Time Equivalent core staff where that enables the organisation to keep delivering services.
  • Can also apply for help for transformational costs to help the charity be in a stronger position to deliver services and support in future.

How To Apply

There will be two funding rounds and organisations can only apply to one round:

  • Round 1 application deadline of midday on 4 June 2021 with a decision in September 2021.
  • Round 2 application deadline of midday on 9 September 2021 with a decision in November 2021.
