Youth Endowment Fund and Comic Relief Invite Applications to £10m Fund

28 September 2021/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

The Youth Endowment Fund and Comic Relief are working together in this round which has a theme of ‘a supportive home – helping families to overcome challenges’.

Grants are available to charities, public services or private sector organisations delivering programmes in England and Wales that help families and carers to create a supportive home environment for 6- to 14-year-old children (or children aged up to 18 years old if they are in the care system), reducing the likelihood of them becoming involved in violence.

The Youth Endowment Fund aims to discover which approaches are most effective in providing the support these young people need. It is expected that between £6 million and £10 million will support 5 to 10 projects. The amount awarded to each project will depend on the type of programme and the kind of evaluation.

This round is focused on funding the following four main areas:

  • Parenting programmes (including programmes for foster carers or people working with children in residential care), which help parents and their children to develop positive behaviours and relationships.
  • Family therapy interventions (including for children in foster care), which offer whole families structured forms of therapy.
  • Programmes to reduce parental conflict, which are specifically designed to improve relationships between parents or carers.
  • Domestic abuse interventions, which are specifically designed to prevent and reduce harm to children and adults.

Groups can register on the YEF website to book a place at one of the following application workshops:

  • Wednesday 29 September (2-3pm).
  • Wednesday 6 October (4-5pm).
  • Thursday 21 October (12-1pm).
  • Monday 8 November (10.30-11.30am).
  • Thursday 25 November (12-1pm).

Commenting at the launch, Comic Relief’s Chief Executive Samir Patel said:

“Early intervention with families who need support can have a dramatic effect on the lives of young people. We’re really excited that this programme has been co-designed with young people, they have used their experiences and knowledge and identified the services they would like to see delivered, alongside advice from expert key workers. Everyone deserves the best start in life and I hope these new programmes and outreach services will help transform the lives of thousands of people.”

How To Apply

The second themed round is open to applications with a deadline of 1 December 2021.

The funder will be looking for applications that help answer this question:

"Which approaches are most effective in helping families and carers to create a supportive home environment for 6 to 14 year-old children (including looked-after children), reducing the likelihood of them becoming involved in violence?"
