Good design

Should be the aim of everyone involved in the development process. The creation of high quality buildings and places is fundamental to what the planning and development process should achieve. Good design is a key aspect of sustainable development, creates better places in which to live and work and helps make development acceptable to communities.

The Council’s Housing Design Supplementary Planning Document gives advice on residential design, and should be viewed alongside Local Plan Policies on design and national guidance. Our Shopfront Design guidance can help guide the sensitive development of new and existing retail premises, in particular those within conservation areas or of historic interest.
