Local Land Charges Search

A Local Authority Search is usually requested by a solicitor on behalf of purchasers of land or property, and forms part of the conveyancing process. The standard questions give potential buyers details of any restrictions or legal obligations, which are enforceable against successive owners. We carry out all official searches covered by the Local Land Charges Act 1975 and we guarantee comprehensive replies.

From the 21st April 2020 Carlisle City Council will no longer provide a Local Land Charges service.

After this date, the Local Land Charges Register will be migrated to HM Land Registry and you will be able to access the new digital service through your portal account, Business Gateway and on GOV.UK.

Carlisle City Council will no longer be providing a Local Land Charges service once the new HM Land Registry service goes live.

Carlisle City Council will continue to provide replies to CON29 enquiries.

Personal Search

A personal search is an inspection of the Local Land Charges Register and can be carried out by anyone. There is no fee for a personal inspection of this register.

It is the responsibility of the person carrying out the personal search to identify the land/property and to make any notes of information held on the Register.

  • Requests for appointments can be made by calling the Land Charges Section on 01228 817554 or by emailing [email protected] including a list of all properties to be searched;
  • At least 48 hours' notice is required before an appointment can be offered - appointment times will be accommodated as far as possible but are subject to availability.
  • Appointments are restricted to 20 minutes duration.

Separate requests for information from the Planning, Building Control and Environmental Health Departments are still required as normal. We advise that you make your request for information to those departments as soon as possible as requests will be dealt with strictly in the order they are received.
