Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage Soon to Open Applications for Continuity Support

11 August 2021/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

The Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage is provided by the Government and administered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Historic England. The Fund is part of the £1.57 billion rescue package announced by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to safeguard cultural and heritage organisations across the UK from the economic impact of COVID-19.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is distributing £40m of this third round of the Culture Recovery Fund, in partnership with Historic England, based on criteria set by DCMS. This round of funding will have two strands:

  • Strand One: Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage: Emergency Resource Support - for organisations that are in severe need and have not yet received support from the Culture Recovery Fund.
  • Strand Two: Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage: Continuity Support - for organisations that are in need and have already received support from the Culture Recovery Fund.

Strand One opened to applications last month and has an application deadline of 30 September 2021.

The aim of Strand Two, Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage: Continuity Support is to continue supporting those culturally significant organisations that have had money invested in their organisation through the Culture Recovery Fund. Further funding will help them transition back into full operation as we begin to emerge from the pandemic.

Applications will be accepted from heritage organisations and businesses in England that own, work with or manage heritage in England who have received funding through the previous two rounds of the Culture Recovery Fund.

Organisations must also be able to demonstrate that they:

  • Are on track to spend 90% of the most recent grant they were awarded under the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage by 29 October 2021.
  • Are at risk of ceasing to trade viably by 31 March 2022.

There is a total funding pot of £40 million for round three.

Applicants can apply for grants of between £10,000 and £1million to cover core operating costs up to a point where they can demonstrate a return to financial viability.

As previous recipients of a grant from the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage, there is a limit to the total amount of funding they can receive:

  • If applicants are a non-profit organisation, the maximum they can receive in total across all rounds is £4 million
  • If applicants are a for-profit (commercial) organisation, the maximum they can receive in total across all rounds is £1.5 million – this includes companies limited by shares that have a not-for-profit or asset lock clause in their governing documents.

How To Apply

The fund will open to applications on 16 August 2021.

The deadline for applications is 29 October 2021 (12pm).

Funding will be allocated on a rolling basis at monthly decision meetings.

Guidance notes, application questions, cash flow forecast template and other documents are available from the National Lottery Heritage website.
