Background
Cumbria Fund Grants are provided and administered by Cumbria Community Foundation.
Objectives of Fund
The programme offers small grants to boost the capacity of local voluntary and community groups to enable them to carry out projects that help disadvantaged local people and strengthen communities.
Value Notes
Grants of up to £10,000 can be provided for up to one year. Multi-year funding may be awarded for certain projects.
Who Can Apply
Voluntary and community groups in Cumbria that are helping people facing disadvantage are eligible to apply.
Organisations must have:
- A formal constitution or set of rules.
- A bank account in the group's name which requires at least two signatures.
- A governing body comprised of at least three unrelated members.
Preference is given to grassroots community groups and small-to-medium-sized voluntary organisations.
Restrictions
Funding is not available for the following:
- Play areas.
- Expeditions.
- Individuals.
- Environmental projects.
- Sports or arts projects, unless linked to one of the five priority areas.
- Animal welfare.
- Contact boxing, except where donor advised.
- Businesses and personal profit.
- Deficit funding.
- General large appeals.
- Medical research and equipment, except where donor advised.
- Activities which are normally the responsibility of central or local government.
- Awards from the same fund in a 12 month period.
- Projects which duplicate an existing service in a area.
- Fundraisers and fundraising events.
- Advancement of religion including buildings solely for religious purposes, except where donor advised.
- Party political activities.
- Retrospective funding unless through a disaster appeal.
- Purchase of vehicle, except where donor advised.
- Groups or individuals who have not returned their monitoring form.
- Beautification projects, except where donor advised.
- National organisations who do not have a local presence within Cumbria.
Eligible Expenditure
Priority will be given to projects which support one of the following aims:
- Improving the lives of disadvantaged children and families.
- Improving the life skills, education, employability and enterprise of disadvantaged people.
- Supporting vulnerable older people.
- Improving the health and wellbeing of people.
- Strengthening and supporting fragile communities.
All aims should support people in Cumbria.
Examples of activities supported are as follows:
- Refurbishment of accommodation for homeless people.
- Improvement of facilities for disabled people.
- Staff salaries for youth clubs for disadvantaged young people.
- Agricultural training and experience for vulnerable adults.
- Drop-in service for people with mental health problems.
- Advisory services on tackling debt and benefit entitlement.
- Access to services which tackle social isolation for older people.
