ITEA 4 is the strategic Eureka Cluster programme supporting technologically innovative, industry-driven, pre-competitive R&D projects in the area of software innovation. ITEA is open to large industry, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, academia, and user organisations (profit and non-profit) and covers a wide range of business opportunities facilitated by digitisation.
Consortia based in two or more Eureka member countries can instigate and participate in a project to gain endorsement from ITEA - the ITEA label - which is an internationally recognised endorsement that confers a competitive edge upon participants in their dealings with financial, technical and commercial partners. The ITEA label confirms that the project is technically sound, innovative, well planned and organised and is likely to lead to a commercial product or service.
Following a successful proposal to the ITEA 4 programme, project partners are promoted to their respective national funding agencies with a recommendation for support through an appropriate programme or funding mechanism.
ITEA 4 has created a living roadmap to support the creation of new projects, which details the various societal and economic challenges relevant to software innovation, including:
- Smart Engineering
- Smart Health
- Safety and Security
- Smart Communities
- Smart Mobility
- Smart Industry
The roadmap also gives information on existing projects, provides a platform for partners and explains the links between them.
Project consortia must include organisations - universities, research institutes, large companies, SMEs - from at least two different countries, at least one of which must be a Eureka member country and one must be a Eureka member country or Eureka associated country.
The Project Leader must be from an organisation established in a Eureka member country or Eureka associated country. Partners from non-Eureka countries may also participate in a project.
Outline proposals are now invited for Call 8 of the ITEA programme and the associated Project Outline preparation event.
The application process consists of two stages:
- Proposal Outline (PO) - provision of short overview of concepts, objectives and provisional partnership.
- Full Project Proposal (FPP) - detailed report of project aims and process.
Project Outlines for ITEA Call 8 must be submitted by the deadline on 16 November 2021 (17:00 CET).
For the 2021 Call for Applications, ITEA is holding an online, three day 'Project Outline preparation' event on 13-16 September 2021 to enable participants to learn more about the proposal process, present and discuss their project and ideas, learn more about national priorities, eligibility criteria and funding outlook (via country-specific information sessions) and connect with companies and potential partners from other countries. Applicants must register to take part.
