DCMS Launches Media Literacy Programme Fund

Education, Employment and Training

08 August 2022/Categories: Grants_and_Funding

Grants are available to organisations undertaking media literacy activity projects in England that tackle a range of media literacy challenges.

The Media Literacy Programme Fund is a multi-year grant scheme offering funding to organisations undertaking media literacy activity that tackles the challenges set out in the Online Media Literacy Strategy.

In year one of the fund, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) is inviting bids for projects that meet one or more of the following strategic priorities:

  • Vulnerable users: providing support to vulnerable users who are currently underserved by media literacy initiatives.
  • Evaluation: implementing new or robust approaches to evaluation that improve understanding of the effectiveness of media literacy interventions.
  • Misinformation and disinformation: undertaking activity to effectively build audience resilience to misinformation and disinformation.

Applications must demonstrate how they will create positive outcomes against one or more of these priorities.

A maximum grant of £200,000 is expected to be administered for individual projects in each financial year the project is live. However, exact amounts will be considered on a case-by-case basis. There is no minimum funding requirement for this bid.

The fund is open to proposals for a range of media literacy interventions. This could include traditional educational interventions, upskilling professionals, tech-based solutions, awareness campaigns, and evaluation of existing media literacy initiatives.

Organisations must be registered to operate in the UK, and have experience of delivering media literacy interventions or equivalent subject matter expertise. Projects must include work taking place in England.

The deadline for applications is 19 September 2022 (23:59 BST).
